D’Souza School win state tournament

D’Souza School of Rourkela won the State inter-school cricket tournament which concluded at Cuttack today. A half-century by Gurjit Singh Sandhu and a useful 43 by Debasis Pradhan helped D’Souza School beat DAV Public School, Bhubaneswar by five runs in the final at the Engineering School ground. In reply to the Rourkela school’s competitive total of 137 for four in 20 overs, the Bhubaneswar school were restricted to 132 for seven in the stipulated overs. Siddharth Sao was another outstanding performer for the winners, bagging three wickets for 14 runs. The champion school received Rs 6,000 while the runners-up were given Rs 4,000. Under-15 Zonal Cricket Academy’s special coach VV Kumar and chief coach KVP Rao gave away the trophy and cash prizes at the closing function. BRIEF SCORE: D’Souza School 137/4 in 20 overs (Gurjit Singh Sandhu 54, Debasis Pradhan 43: Rohit Mishra 2/15) beat DAV Public School 132/7 in 20 overs (Asish Singh 32, Joy Tripathy 28: Siddharth Sao 3/14).
